9 Unforgettable Things to do in Prague

things to do in prague

I was lucky enough to spend a few days in Prague this December during my Epic European Christmas Market Adventure and was pleasantly blown away by how much immediate love I had for the city of a hundred spires.

Paul visited Prague solo last year over his birthday weekend while working in Switzerland. I was so jealous that he’d been to somewhere I have longed to go, so I was so happy to finally be there…and I was not disappointed!

Prague offers centuries worth of well-preserved architecture, history, culture, and incredible food. There are so many incredible things to do in Prague without even trying, but I’ve listed my favorites! If you’re wondering what to do in Prague, this will help you narrow down the best spots to see in a short amount of time.

Book a Photoshoot

We always love to book a photoshoot when we’re traveling. As a mom, it’s tough to get in the photos since I’m always behind the camera. We love using Flytographer to capture our memories. You can get $25 off your shoot by booking with this link or using code WANDERLUST.

Walk the Charles Bridge

If you visit Prague, walking across the Charles Bridge is a must. Constructed by King Charles IV in the 1300s, this bridge was the only way to cross the Vltava River for over 300 years. This bridge is for pedestrians only and is one of the top things to do in Prague. Stroll across and watch boats floating down the river and check out the statues of saints that line the bridge.

Tell Time at the Prague Astronomical Clock

Prague’s famous astronomical clock or the “Orloj” is found in the Old Square on the Old Town Hall wall. The Orloj dates all the way back to 1410! It is the third oldest clock in the world and the oldest working clock in the world. Watch the “Walk of the Apostles” every hour on the hour, as they march by and mark the time. Legend has it that Prague will be in danger if the clock is not meticulously maintained.

Visit Prague Castle

Known as the largest ancient castle in the world, Prague Castle is the official office of the President of the Czechia and the most popular attraction in Prague. The crown jewels of Bohemia are stored in a secret room inside the castle. At Christmas time you can find a charming market on the grounds of the castle.

Wander Around St. Vitus Cathedral

Included on the grounds of Prague Castle is St. Vitus Cathedral. This gorgeous gothic structure is the seat of the Archbishop of Prague and is also the largest cathedral in the country. The cathedral is beautiful and commanding. Some of my favorite treats from my Prague Christmas market trip were from this market.

Shop in Old Town Square Prague

This is the heart of old town Prague, an area of the city that will make you feel as if you’ve been transported back 300 years in time! With cobblestone walkways surrounded by ancient buildings.

Old Town Square Prague

Here you will find the Orloj (Astronomical clock), the Gothic church of Our Lady Before Tyn, Old Town Hall Tower, John Lennon Wall, Old Jewish Cemetery, and other museums and churches. If you visit Prague at Christmas or Easter time, markets overflow the square and make the town even more beautiful and festive.

Lennon Wall

The Lennon Wall is one of the best things to do in Prague. This constantly evolving monument was once just a plain old wall! After his death in 1980, John Lennon’s portrait was painted on this wall. In 1988 it was a place where young Czechs would write their grievances against the then-Communist regime.

Lennon Wall

Despite constant attempts to reclaim the wall and countless coats of whitewash, the wall is now an ever-changing shrine to political activism and the pacifist movement. By the time you visit the Lennon Wall, it will probably look completely different from this picture. You can often find performers singing Beatles songs in tribute to John Lennon, like this guy who really wanted to go back to the 60s.

Take a Boat Ride to Na Kampe

Definitely one of the most heart-eyes charming parts of visiting Prague is in Mala Strana. If it weren’t for cars and electricity, you would believe you had traveled back in time. To add to the loveliness is the Venitian-like waterways where you can hop on a boat and sail alongside the swans. This view is one of the most beautiful things to see in Prague and I definitely wouldn’t skip this stop!

Eat All the Food

I was pleasantly surprised to find that Prague is an incredible city for foodies! We mostly ate market food on this trip, but splurged and dined at Divinis which was DIVINE and probably one of the best meals I’ve had in my entire life! Be sure to try the deer, but really everything we had was mind-blowingly delicious!

Where to Stay in Prague

Prague has a great offering of home rentals and hotels for great prices compared to the rest of Europe. We got a beautiful suite in a hotel for under $100/night. Here are some of our favorite Prague hotels:

If you’re only in Prague for one day, I recommend staying in the old City Center of Prague or at a Prague Airport Hotel if you’re planning to visit the city on a 1-day layover.  Have I convinced you to visit Prague? I hope so! I can’t wait to take the kids back next year.
